In last weeks Ayurveda ‘short’ I talked about pitta dosha out of balance. This week we’re taking a look at kapha dosha when it is out of balance. Next week I will give some pointers for bringing each of the doshas into balance. In case you missed the earlier Ayurveda ‘shorts’, they began here and at the end of each post there is a next link.
Kapha
When kapha is in balance in a kapha type they will be loyal, caring, calm, thoughtful, loving, strong, compassionate, patient, steady, supportive, have a strong build, good stamina, smooth radiant skin, regular digestion, sleep well and enjoy routine.
When kapha is out of balance in any of us we can feel lethargic, apathetic, foggy, heavy, dull, flat, depressed and unmotivated. We can be sentimental, resistant to change, stubborn, possessive, clingy, have sluggish bowel movements, eat more, sleep more, and there will often be increased mucus and a thick white coating on the tongue. We will find it difficult getting out of bed in the morning, become over-weight or put on weight and find it difficult to lose. There will be increased secretions, paleness, and heavy limbs. Diseases usually involve phlegm, dampness, excessive tissue growth, with diabetes and asthma potentially developing. All due to too much water and earth elemental qualities building in the body.
While a reactive tendency when stressed for vata dosha out of balance is ‘What did I do wrong?” and for a pitta dosha out of balance “What did you do wrong?” the kapha dosha out of balance response is “I don’t want to deal with it.”.
I look forward to sharing some tips next week on how to bring each dosha back into balance.
If you enjoy these Ayurveda ‘shorts’ a like will let me know to carry on!
