Last night I was watching the snow fall in the darkness lit up by the street lamp opposite. I sat inside cosy and warm until i noticed it was actually lying on the street, rare where I live.
Out I went, rain-coated covered pyjamas and boots, down into the deserted street to make footprints, and pictures in the snow.
Shortly, the young lad from next door appeared in his skeleton pyjamas and we, shared, snow.
Darkness all around and windows lit up with lights. Christmas lights still twinkling and golden.
It, was, lovely. I was playing in a Christmas card.
Then i came back upstairs, and the skeleton pyjamared neighbour disappeared into his flat as my tiny snowball landed on his head.
The rest of the evening I watched the snow flurrying down under that lamppost, covering up my footprints and pictures as that blanket of white, hushed everything away.
When I went to bed, those red rooftops were white, and the garden undercover from midwinter antics. Everything, was very, very, still.
I opened the window and looked outside, beathed in the air, cold and crisp it was. Scrunch white grass below in my gaze and, tufts of leaves showing through in patches around the edges. Little heaps of ice frosted crunchy brown leaves hiding hedgehogs.
Soil hidden, and worms and creatures. The whole garden and street world, standing out of time.

Mung broth
If you over-indulged at Christmas this mung broth is great for your digestion. I soaked some mung beans and cooked in a slow cooker over night, fine to just cook up on the cooker. I usually make a big batch to use for different things. I sautéd in ghee fresh ginger root grated with turmeric, black pepper, cardamon, a pinch of clove then added the mung, along with stock. Seasoned with salt, more black pepper and lemon. Served with yogurt, mango chutney and, if I’d had any fresh coriander that would have gone on too.

Gorgeous, evocative scene, transporting me to my youth ❄️😊
What a gorgeous, magical scene, Lucy! Interestingly, Chinese medicine uses mung beans to address "damp-heat" in the body, which is often common after bouts of overindulgence.
